Microcement Maintenance

What is the maintenance of the microcement?

MICROCEMENT MAINTENANCE – A common question from our clients is whether microcement requires extensive maintenance. The truth is that it needs minimal upkeep, primarily focused on specific care during the first few weeks after application. This is because microcement takes approximately 30 days to fully cure, and extra precautions are essential during this period.

Once fully cured, maintaining microcement is easy. Routine cleaning involves simply using water and a neutral soap. For added protection, a layer of protective varnish can be applied every 4–5 years, though this is optional and generally unnecessary with proper care.

First Weeks

First Week Care

During the first week, it’s crucial to handle the surface with care. Avoid performing any work on it or allowing liquid spills, as the material is still curing and may absorb moisture, leading to stains. Do not clean it with water during this time, and avoid covering it with materials like cardboard that could hinder drying.

Second Week Onward

After the first week, water-based cleaning can begin, but precautions should still be taken to avoid impacts or damage to the surface. Once the 30-day curing period is complete, microcement achieves full durability. At this stage, care requirements are similar to those for parquet or marble flooring: avoid dragging furniture and prevent heavy objects from falling on it.

Ongoing Maintenance

For surfaces that lose some shine over time, applying an acrylic wax can restore their luster. This should be done after cleaning the surface with a degreasing detergent. Additionally, after several years, applying a fresh layer of polyurethane can rejuvenate the surface, ensuring it remains easy to clean and looks as good as new.

Important Tips

  • Avoid contact with strong solvents; if necessary, they should be diluted with water.
  • Treat microcement with the same care as parquet flooring to keep it in excellent condition for many years.
